TGIF: Who Run The World?
TGIF! This week we launched our very own podcast! Hosted by the team at Hackbright, Run The World is a podcast for women, by women. We'll sit down with industry experts for conversations on women in tech, software engineering news, and other industry updates.
Check back at the end of each week for our Friday finds. Here's what we're listening to – October 12.
Who Run The World?
For our first episode, we chatted with Kathlyn Hart to talk about Negotiating Your Salary: Q&A With Be Brave Get Paid.
Salary negotiation is an invaluable life skill – and one that's even more important for women. In a 2018 study, just 39 percent of workers negotiated their last salary – of that group, 46 percent of men reported negotiating a higher salary, while just 34 percent of women did. Depending on job title and level, by not negotiating, women can leave behind thousands, even millions of dollars in their lifetimes.
We talked to Kat to learn how she became a salary negotiation coach, why she designed a program to help women gain the skills and the confidence to ask for the income they deserve, and how women who are looking to change their careers can approach entering the tech job market.
