A Day in the Life of an Engineer: Meet Dena Mwangi

TGIF and happy holidays! We hope you had a wonderful (and delicious) Thanksgiving, and a lovely long weekend. We’re keeping it short and sweet this week.

Check back at the end of each week for our Friday finds. Here’s what we’re reading – November 23.

Getting into the spirit of giving

Black Friday

Today is the day! And for us at Hackbright, when in doubt about which of the latest technologies to buy, we turn to CNET.

Their round up of The 61 Best Black Friday deals of 2018 has a wide variety of consumer tech goods across a broad range of pricing. Whether you’re looking for a personal splurge, or something to stuff in your SO’s stocking, this reliable holiday guide is one we keep going back to.

Small Business Saturday

Started in 2010, Small Business Saturday (#ShopSmall) was created to support and celebrate local small businesses. We love this “holiday.” It’s a great opportunity to visit your favorite local merchants, connect with your community, and help keep small businesses going.

Bonus: if you’re doing your holiday shopping on #SBS, then you can be sure your gifts this holiday season are one of a kind, and not the standard big-box fare.

Cyber Monday

Everyone loves a getaway. If electronics aren’t your jam, CNN published a roundup of Travel deals for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If the holidays are more of a holiDAZE for you and you want to get away this season, then consider booking a trip while the prices are right.

Who couldn’t use a vacation?

Giving Tuesday

And last, but certainly not least, #GivingTuesday is one of our favorite holiday “days.” Started in 2012, Giving Tuesday falls the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, and is a global day of giving. Spending on gifts for loved ones is great – but especially during the holidays, those who aren’t as fortunate miss out of the opportunity for even some basic good and services. Giving Tuesday is a great reminder to give back to those in need.

Check out their many resources, recommendations for how to contribute, or just follow along on social media to feel all the wamr and fuzzies from this philanthropic effort.
